Frontpage 2000 Support [Back to Top] We offer full support for
Microsoft Frontpage 2000 extensions. Websites designed using FrontPage
need to have FrontPage extensions installed on the server to allow
publishing via FrontPage and for certain FrontPage specific components to
operate such as the hit counter and search facility. The FrontPage 2000
extensions are backward compatible with all versions of
FrontPage.
Web Stats [Back to Top] You can view real-time
information about the visitors to your website.. The Who's On report
showcases the Live Stats interface. It displays the activity going on at
that exact moment in time on your Web site. It also provides a way to zoom
in on a single session in progress. First it tracks who is using the
Web site right now. Click the "Refresh" button and you're likely to see
new users show up on the Web site. Second, the Who's On report solves
the corporate identity, geographic origin and machine name of the IP
Address of the user in real-time if available. This information is not
always available immediately because a global search may be required to
locate it. Even more detailed information is available by clicking the
magnifying glass adjacent to any IP Address. This will display a Session
Breakdown that shows everything the user has done during their time
online. As well machine name, what organization they are from, where they
are located, the time they have spent online, how many hits they have
made, how many kilobytes have been moved, their Browser tag and who
referred them to the Web site are shown.
Full CGI Support [Back to Top]
You can use your own CGI programs developed in any
programming language such as Visual Basic or Delphi.
Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Databases
[Back to Top] You can create MSSQL Server
databases on your account and have full control of them via the Microsoft
Enterprise Manager or ODBC. MSSQL Server is the most powerful database
available for the web today and is the solution used by many Corporate and
Financial institutions worldwide.Microsoft SQL Server is a high
performance database which can be used in place of Access databases for
your websites. MS SQL Server databases can be used in your
ASP/Perl/iHTML scripts through the use of an ODBC datasource.
Note:
You will need a good understanding of MSSQL in order to use an MSSQL
database on your website. Although 1st-Host provides the service, we do
not provide consultancy on setting up your database free of
charge
ODBC Database
support [Back to Top] Your website can use any
ODBC compliant database such as Microsoft Access or Microsoft
Excel
Dial up Accounts [Back to Top] 1st-hosts dial up accounts
are available charged at local telephone rates, unmetered access will soon
be available, if you wish to be notified when this service is available,
email us and we will add you to our mailing list.
SSL [Back to Top] SSL (Secured Sockets
Layer) is a protocol which encrypts data between the web browser and
server. This is especially important for sites such as online shops where
customers are asked to enter their credit card details. Typically a normal
website sends all these details in "clear text" (no encryption) and it is
possible for a third party to "sniff" these details during transmission.
SSL cures this problem by encrypting the information with a key which only
only the webserver can decrypt. There are various strengths of keys
available. The 1st-Hosts SSL server uses 128 bit encryption from
Thawte.
Secured URLs
can be determined by a padlock in the bottom left screen of the web
browser. Here, visitors can click this to view information about the URL
they are viewing.
For the sake
of efficiency and speed, only put pages which will be used to collect
sensitive information onto the SSL server (such as HTML forms). There is a
10mb quota set per SSL folder.
This
1st-Hosts SSL server is a shared server meaning that the URL used to
access your secured area will always be
https://vault1.secured-url.com/yourfoldername
URL Security [Back to Top] URL security provides a
method of password protecting sections of a website. When the user
attempts to visit a secure area they will be prompted for a username and
password which they must enter in order to be granted access to this site.
For example, you can create a "members only" section on your website or an
area just private to yourself. URL Security comes in two flavours:
Basic and Advanced. Basic URL security validates users from a text file
only whereas advanced can validate users through the use of a text file or
an ODBC datasource
